If you have been accepted at a host institution as an exchange student in a country for which you do not hold a passport for, then you are required to acquire a Study VISA prior to departure.

What is a Study VISA?

A Study VISA is an official document issued by your tentative host country’s embassy or consulate from within Canada, testifying that you have been granted permission to pursue your studies for an allotted period of time in that country. The Study VISA is adhered into your passport, and should be carried on your person throughout your travels. It is a MANDATORY document for any student wishing to study abroad who does not hold a passport from that country/EU. If you are unsure as to whether or not you will require a Study VISA, please contact your host country’s appropriate embassy or consulate here in Canada.

How do I get a Study VISA?

Once you have received an "Official Letter of Acceptance" by your host institution, you need to locate and contact the appropriate embassy or consulate to apply for the Study VISA. Application processes vary for different countries; some will require more documentation than merely the host institution's "Official Letter of Acceptance," such as a letter of permission to participate from the JMSB. You will also have to provide term dates for your studies abroad when you apply for the Study Visa. Check out these websites:
