JMSB Students' Experiences in
Hong Kong |
|
"Honk Kong is the City of Life, I
had an amazing experience there. As a north American student in
economics it was of particular interest studying in Hong Kong With
such proximity to China I was able to experience first hand the
transition from command to market economy, mirrored by political
transition in Hong Kong. I took a course in Cantonese; a tough
language with 9 tones in all and nothing like English. My room
overlooked the South China Sea and winter in the tropics was heaven
compared to Montréal's (15 degrees in December). |
 |
I had the opportunity to subsequently travel through China, South
Korea, Cambodia , Vietnam and Thailand with fellow exchange
students. Perhaps the highlight of my experience was the friends I
made form around the world spanning from Tokyo to Melbourne, to
Morroco to Vancouver. The most interesting experience was eating
chicken feet and shark fin soup. To go shopping I would take the
ferry across the harbour to Mong Kok and spend hours sifting through
the discount clothing and cheap VCDs. Afterwards my friends and I
had the habit of feasting on grilled quid with hot sauce and mango-jello.
all in all my experience on Hong Kong was worth 1000 other
experiences and would not trade it for the world." -Surabhi |
